Prepare

Most teams cannot say which of their rituals manage a constraint that still exists and which they keep from habit. That is the only question this page asks. Mark the practices still true of your team, and the ledger returns the verdict on each, the move that follows, and the skill that move builds.

The window to get ahead of this is open and not permanent — but it closes one named practice at a time, not all at once. Naming where you are is the first revolution of the outer loop.

Self-assessment

Tick what's true of your team today. There are no wrong answers — only constraints worth naming.

The four skills

Judgment

Choosing the problem, arbitrating the trade-off, carrying accountability. Torque, not speed.

Specification

Writing down what you actually mean, precisely enough that machines can execute it. The gear mesh.

Verification

Knowing what to look at, what to sample, and what to let pass — and being honest about the difference.

Orchestration

Replacing yourself as the one who prompts — you design the loop that runs and verifies itself rather than driving it turn by turn. Seams removed, stop conditions written, one housing held at two speeds.

Commitments · the working rules
  1. We judge practices by purpose, not tradition. Every ritual must name the constraint it manages.
  2. We write intent as if machines will execute it, because they will.
  3. We verify in proportion to consequence, and stay honest about what was verified versus glanced at.
  4. We keep one housing. Two speeds, never two teams; no second-class shaft.
  5. We compound or we stop. Every revolution must leave the system smarter than it found it.
  6. We respect the anxious reader. Verdicts are passed on practices, never on the people who hold them.
  7. We show our work. Every verdict is dated, changelogged, and revised in public when the evidence moves.
